This November, BEM Happy Journey, one of special routes held by Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited brings together arts, food, cultural performances, and interactive workshops that showcase the unique identity of the Thai–Chinese community.

This event is designed to welcome visitors of all ages, giving everyone a chance to explore Yaowarat in a meaningful way. It offers a friendly cultural atmosphere where you can enjoy exhibitions, hands-on creative activities, and a variety of traditional Chinese arts. The event runs from 01.00 – 08.00 PM., making it perfect for an afternoon cultural trip or an evening walk through the lively Chinatown street.

The core of the event focuses on the idea of discovering the lifestyle and artistic heritage of the Thai–Chinese community. Visitors will learn about important traditions, cultural practices, and the long-standing history of Yaowarat, one of the most iconic areas in Bangkok. A special Yaowarat exhibition will feature stories and elements of the Thai–Chinese community, including traditional beliefs, local wisdom, and life in the neighborhood. The exhibition includes displays that tell the story of how Yaowarat evolved and how the community preserved its identity from generation to generation.

In addition to the exhibition, the event offers exclusive trips, which include 3 special routes designed to take visitors deeper into the artistic world of Yaowarat. These exclusive trips highlight the unique appeal of the neighborhood, showing visitors the connection between Thai and Chinese cultures through architecture, old communities, and long-practiced artistic traditions. The trips are guided so visitors can fully understand the history behind each landmark or cultural spot. As the typical streets of Yaowarat are rich with temples, shrines, and traditional shops, these routes help visitors slow down and appreciate stories that are often missed during regular visits.

Highlight Activities

One of the most exciting parts of the event is the Chinese Opera stage. The performances will take place each night at 18.00, offering three different stories across three evenings:

  • On 28 November, the opera presents “ลูกกตัญญู” (Filial Child), a story highlighting responsibility and family duty.
  • On 29 November, visitors can enjoy “คดีสี่ไทเฮา” (The Case of the Four Empress Dowagers), a dramatic mystery involving royal figures.
  • On 30 November, the opera closes with “หลกซิ้ง” (Lok Sheng), a popular heroic tale that emphasizes unity and bravery.

For many visitors, this will be a rare chance to watch a classical art form up close.

For the pop-Up workshops, these are another major highlight. Each day features creative sessions that let visitors try different Chinese-inspired crafts. Activities include ribbon weaving, Chinese knot making, and fan painting. The workshops are designed to be simple and enjoyable for all ages, giving participants a chance to take home their handmade souvenirs. At the workshop, the instructors will also explain the symbolic meaning behind each craft, such as how knot designs represent luck, protection, or good fortune.

Why You Should not miss the event

This event provides a complete cultural experience that is both enjoyable and educational. So, this is kind of an opportunity that you can connect and learn Thai and Chinese traditions through art, storytelling, food, and craftsmanship. With its convenient access via MRT Wat Mangkon, the festival is easy for both locals and international visitors to join.

If you are searching for an event that brings history, it is a wonderful way to celebrate diversity and learn more about the cultural roots of Yaowarat street.
