Udon Thani is ready to welcome travellers from Thailand and around the world for the Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026.
Running from 1 November 2026 to 14 March 2027, the event will bring horticulture, environmental ideas and local culture together in Northeast Thailand. More importantly, it gives travellers a reason to spend more time exploring a province that has much more to offer than a quick stopover.
The expo will take place at Nong Dae Wetland in Kut Sa, Mueang Udon Thani District. Its main theme, “Diversity of Life: Connecting People, Water, and Plants for Sustainable Living,” reflects the close relationship between natural resources and the way communities live.
For travellers, a trip to the expo can easily become a longer journey through Udon Thani and Northern Isan, with archaeological sites, lotus-filled wetlands, local food, temples and Mekong River views.
What Is Special About Udon Expo 2026?
The expo is being developed around a wetland landscape, placing water and biodiversity at the centre of the visitor experience. The event will explore how plants, water systems, agriculture and communities can support more sustainable ways of living. Visitors can expect gardens, international displays and exhibitions related to horticulture and agriculture. Plans also include areas focused on agricultural innovation and modern farming technology, such as indoor farming and new approaches to agriculture.

Places to Visit in Udon Thani After the Expo
Red Lotus Sea
If you visit Udon Thani between December and February, consider making time for Red Lotus Lake in Kumphawapi District. The lake is known for its seasonal display of pink lotus flowers, and early morning is generally the best time to experience the landscape. A boat trip across the lake offers a completely different side of Udon Thani and works particularly well as a half-day excursion.
Ban Chiang Archaeological Site
For a look at Udon Thani's long history, head to Ban Chiang Archaeological Site, one of Thailand's most important archaeological destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is known for its ancient settlements and distinctive pottery. It is a good choice for travellers who want to add history and local heritage to a trip centred around the expo.
Phu Phra Bat Historical Park
Located in Ban Phue District, Phu Phra Bat Historical Park is known for its unusual sandstone formations and archaeological sites. The area combines natural landscapes with traces of human history, making it suitable for a day trip from Udon Thani. Visitors can take their time walking through the site and learning about the cultural significance of the area.
