Today, the Colors of Doi Tung event is back in Mae Fa Luang district, Chiang Rai.
Normally, the annual ‘Colors of Doi Tung’ Festival is held every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday from 08:00 to 18:00 hrs. in Doi Tung, Chiang Rai throughout the 2 months of December and January (December 2, 2025 - January 25, 2026). This event is held every year to celebrate the success of the Doi Tung Development Project with art, local handicrafts and northern delicacies.
This year’s festival is a collaboration between the Mae Fah Luang Foundation and Mae Fah Luang University, bringing together art, culture, conservation, and joyful imagination. The event highlights the idea of spreading inspiration from the sky to the earth, symbolized by the adorable guardians of the mountain—characters inspired by Tai Yai traditions, local culture, and biodiversity.
Festival Details
Leading the festival is P’To, a character inspired by the traditional Tai Yai “Rumnok-Rumto” dance. He represents biodiversity and the unique natural guardians of Doi Tung. Beside him are four charming characters known as the Marn Marn Guardians from Chiang Saen, who combine cuteness with local wisdom and environmental awareness. Visitors will meet these characters along the walking street and throughout the festival grounds.
The event welcomes everyone with free entrance to the walking street zone, where community shops, handmade crafts, local food, and playful activity booths fill the area with life and excitement. Visitors may also explore nearby attractions inside the Doi Tung Development Project such as Doi Tung Royal Villa, Mae Fah Luang Garden, and Mae Fah Luang Arboretum.
