If your answer is a YES, you must visit the Ayutthaya Khon Festival this year!  The event is happening from March 19th - 23rd, at the open ground beside Wat Phra Ram, Ayutthaya Historical Park.

Highlights of Ayutthaya Khon Festival 2026

This festival is a big celebration of Thai arts and culture. You will see a variety of wonderful Khon performances, which are traditional Thai masked dramas. The stories are usually from the Ramayana epic, and the costumes and masks are so elegant!

The opening ceremony will take place on Friday, March 20, 2026. Visitors will also have the chance to witness a reenactment of King Prasat Thong’s coronation ceremony, led by Aum-Atichart Chumnanont.

The Ayutthaya Khon Festival is a significant cultural event which deeply rooted in the history and unique characteristics of Khon in Thailand, particularly its connection to the former capital of Ayutthaya.

The festival plays a crucial role in preserving and promoting Khon, which was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2018. By showcasing various Khon troupes, including youth performances, it encourages the continuation of this tradition across generations. It also shows everyone how amazing Thai culture is, with its stories, music, dances, and the beautiful things they make like the masks.

Lots of things will be happening every day! 

You can see music, different Khon groups, Thai dancing, and even Thai boxing. There will also be special talks and fun contests about the Ramakien story. And on some days, you can even see puppet shows and listen to traditional Thai music.

More than just Khon! 

This event is part of a bigger celebration in Ayutthaya province. You can also enjoy local food and many delicious local dishes here. The festival is an amazing opportunity to experience the beauty and richness of Thai culture in a historical setting.
