Lumphini Park, which opened in 1925, was created under King Rama VI’s reign. For one hundred years, this green space has been a place where people come to relax, exercise, and enjoy nature in the middle of the city.

To celebrate, the city government is organizing an event from 25 to 30 April 2026, combining a royal tribute and a festive public gathering. The centennial celebration gives both locals and tourists a chance to revisit this iconic green space with new eyes and with respect for its historical roots.

Six Days of Fun and Celebration

The official opening ceremony will take place on 25 April at 6:00 PM. From 26–30 April, visitors can enjoy the event daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Throughout the six-day celebration, guests can explore a wide range of experiences, including:

  • Cultural performances inspired by the royal play Matthanaphatha
  • Exhibitions about the history of Lumpini Park
  • Multimedia mapping shows on the park’s famous clock tower
  • Musical fountain performances
  • Dance sessions, Tai Chi, yoga, aerobics, and Khon workshops
  • Food stalls and local products from all 50 district of Bangkok

Live Music in the Park

Music lovers can also enjoy performances by some of Thailand’s leading orchestras, including:

  • Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra
  • National Symphony Orchestra of Thailand
  • Bangkok Metropolitan Orchestra

There will also be social dance activities and performances by young street artists, adding a fresh and modern energy to the event.

A Historic Landmark of Bangkok

Lumpini Park was established in 1925 by King Vajiravudh, who gave the land for public use. The park was named after Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha. Today, Lumpini Park remains one of Bangkok’s most loved landmarks. It is a favorite place for runners, families, office workers, and anyone looking for a peaceful break from city life.

Easy to Get There

Visitors can reach the park easily by public transport.

  • BTS Skytrain Sala Daeng Station, Exit 6
  • BTS Skytrain Ratchadamri Station, Exit 4
  • MRT Blue Line Silom Station, Exit 1
  • MRT Blue Line Lumpini Station, Exit 3

A hundred years is a long time for anything to survive in the middle of a city that changes as fast as Bangkok does. This week is a rare chance to see the park at its best.
