Ganesha Shrine

You are now standing in front of the Ganesha Shrine, located in front of the CentralWorld plaza in the Ratchaprasong area.

Before you is the golden deity with an elephant head — Lord Ganesha, one of the most recognized Hindu deities in this district. In Hindu tradition, Ganesha is associated with wisdom and the removal of obstacles, and he is often worshipped at the beginning of rituals or important undertakings.

According to Hindu mythology, Ganesha was created by Goddess Parvati to guard her. When Lord Shiva returned and was prevented from entering, he did not recognize the boy and, in anger, cut off his head. After realizing the truth, Shiva restored him to life by replacing his head with an elephant's. From then on, Ganesha became known as a deity connected with new beginnings and the clearing of obstacles.
