What Is the SEA Games and Why It Matter
The SEA Games, also known as the Southeast Asian Games, is a massive family reunion for the region. However, instead of small talk, we have epic sports! Every two years, athletes from all over Southeast Asia come together to compete in dozens of events, from classic track and field to martial arts.

The SEA Games Thailand 2025 will be truly special. It marks the seventh time Thailand has hosted this iconic event. You can expect stadiums packed with cheering fans, an incredible vibe of national pride, and a whole lot of fun.
Host Cities and Key Stadiums in Thailand
The SEA Games Thailand 2025 will run from December 9 to 20, with all the excitement spread across three provinces: Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla. Get ready for 54 sports and 574 gold medals for grabs!

Bangkok is where the heart of the action will be, hosting about 31 sports. You’ll find all the biggest moments and ceremonies at iconic venues like Rajamangala National Stadium and the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) Hua Mak complex. The Bangkok zone is so big it even includes nearby provinces like Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani, and Nakhon Pathom, so you’ll see everything from volleyball and e-sports to badminton and ice hockey happening all over the metro area.

Chonburi brings the games to the beach! Imagine watching sports with the sound of waves in the background. Pattaya, Jomtien Beach, and even parts of Rayong will host events. Expect to see sailing, jet ski races, marathon swimming, and other water sports, along with hockey, weightlifting, and mountain biking.

Songkhla, in the southern part of Thailand, will host football group matches, muay thai, pencak silat, judo, wushu, and more. It’s a great chance to explore a beautiful part of the country while catching some serious action.

Wherever you go for the SEA Games Thailand, the venues are always super close to awesome markets, delicious restaurants, and must-see sights. You could watch a match in the morning, explore an ancient temple or chill on the beach in the afternoon, and be back in time for an evening final. It’s the ultimate holiday!
Must-Watch Competitions and the Local Heroes to Cheer For
One of the best things about the SEA Games Thailand 2025 is the insane variety of sports. You’ll see everything you know and love, like swimming, football, and basketball, but you’ll also discover regional favorites you won’t find anywhere else. We're talking sepak takraw, muay thai, and pencak silat. Even if you’ve never seen them before, the energy from the crowd will pull you right in!

Locals go absolutely wild for football, volleyball, sepak takraw, badminton, and taekwondo. If you manage to get tickets to any of these, get ready for a stadium full of non-stop cheering and national pride. It’s an unforgettable experience.
Of course, you’ll want to keep an eye on Thailand’s own superstars. All eyes will be on our legendary women’s volleyball team and Thailand’s men’s football team, Changsuek. On the track, watch out for sprinter “Bew” Puripol Boonson, affectionately called “Thep Bew” by fans. With the home crowd cheering them on, these athletes are set to deliver some of the biggest moments of the SEA Games Thailand.
How to Get Tickets and Navigate the Schedule
Tickets for the SEA Games Thailand 2025 aren't on sale just yet, but keep an eye on the official website (www.seagames2025.org) and other official channels for updates.

Here’s the good news for locals: most events will be free to watch. The goal is to let everyone join in on the fun and cheer for our athletes. For some of the popular sports, paid tickets might be required to manage the massive crowds, so stay tuned for more details.

Travel Tips: Getting Around, Staying Connected, and Local Etiquette
Getting around during SEA Games Thailand is pretty easy. In Bangkok, the BTS Skytrain and MRT are fast, clean, and super cheap. Taxis are everywhere, and for ultimate convenience, we love using ride-hailing apps like Grab or Line Man (they have English menus, so you’re all set!). For short trips, hop on a motorbike taxi. It's the fastest way to zip through traffic.

If you’re heading to Chonburi for events, it’s an easy trip from Bangkok. You can grab a van or bus from Mo Chit Bus Terminal or the Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekkamai), and you’ll be there in just over two hours. Once in Pattaya, you can use songthaews (shared pickup trucks), motorbike taxis, or Grab.
For events in Songkhla, just fly from Bangkok to Hat Yai International Airport in about 1.5 hours, then take a taxi or Grab into the city. Easy!
As for etiquette: smile often, be polite, and follow local customs. Dress modestly at temples, always take off your shoes before entering homes or certain buildings, and cheer respectfully at games.
