You are now at the Narayana Shrine, located in front of the InterContinental Bangkok Hotel, at street level along Ratchadamri Road.

Here you will see Narayana riding Garuda. His crown reflects elements of the ancient Khmer art style.

According to legend, Garuda once attempted to steal the elixir of immortality to free his mother from servitude under the Nagas. Narayana descended to confront him, and the two fought intensely. As neither could defeat the other, they eventually reached an agreement. Garuda would serve as Narayana’s vehicle, as depicted in this statue. In return, Narayana granted him recognition and respect. This narrative reflects themes of strength, balance, and mutual honor.
